Raping the west

We are essentially a crass people.

Not that this fact dawned on me in a jiffy; in fact I always believed we copy the west, and in a very obscene way at that. I recently watched "I now pronounce you Chuck and Larry", and really, unlike what our Hindi mainstream cinema makes it out to be, homosexuality can be made fun of in a very sensitive, tasteful manner. Whether it is science fiction, comedy or drama, we end up raping the original film. And I don't even want to start listing all those movies, the originals of which are masterpieces...

And an even more obscene fact is that the masses like those movies. I am not saying that people should watch English movies only, neither am I saying that all Hindi movies are shit, but by all standards, these movies are really not worth a twopence!

The argument that by ripping off Hollywood films, these ideas reach wider audiences, does not hold true here. If you really want to remake a movie that inspired you, please stick to the original word by word, or rather scene by scene, changing only when the plot is required to suit Indian sensibilities.

Why do we always try to veil the head , while baring the waist in process?

Disclaimer: This post is not written to hurt any sentiments. These are purely personal views and I believe I am entitled to hold an opinion and voice it out too. And finally, I think the sari is a very elegant and tasteful garment. Any reference here to it is purely for the want of a better metaphor, not an insult to our customs or religion or culture.
